How to respond to an unfair 1-star Google review
Will Google delete it?
Google removes reviews that break its content rules — for example spam, fake engagement, off-topic rants, hate speech, or conflicts of interest. A review that is simply negative or unfair in your opinion usually stays. You can flag it from your Business Profile and check the status there.
Your reply is for the next customer
Most people who read the review will never meet the reviewer. They are deciding whether to visit you. A calm, kind reply often wins more trust than the bad review loses.

Change the details so it sounds like you.
- Real problem: “Hi Maria, I’m sorry your coffee arrived cold and the wait was long — that’s not how we want anyone to feel. Please message us on 69… so we can make it right on your next visit.”
- Can’t find the visit: “Hi Alex, thank you for the feedback. We can’t find your visit in our bookings, and we’d really like to understand what happened. Could you contact us directly at …?”
- Rating with no text: “Thank you for taking the time to rate us. If something wasn’t right, we’d love to hear from you at … so we can do better.”
What never to write
Don’t call the reviewer a liar, don’t share private details (especially health or booking details), and don’t offer discounts in exchange for changing the review.
